Letting go of a home and the belongings inside it can uncover far more than logistical tasks. Memories surface. Emotions arise. Grief, responsibility, and uncertainty can quickly create overwhelm. We understand that.

At First Light Estate Sales, we specialize in full estate sales, while also supporting families with partial sales, downsizing, and home organization. We work with people across the Portland area who are navigating major life transitions and need experienced, steady guidance they can trust.

Our role is to ease our clients’ load and bring order to a complex process. We handle sorting, staging, pricing, and selling with transparency and respect, so families can focus on what matters most and move forward with clarity.

We believe objects carry meaning, history, and life. When this work is handled with compassion, it can become a meaningful part of healing.

From our first interaction, Sarah was remarkably gentle, empathetic, and reassuring. What could easily have been an overwhelming—and frankly odious—task was transformed by her care and presence into an experience that was not only manageable, but genuinely healing. She approached every step with sensitivity, respect, and a deep understanding that personal belongings carry memories, stories, and love.
Sarah helped us move through the process in a way that honored the life being celebrated, not just the logistics that needed to be handled. Her calm guidance, thoughtful organization, and steady communication allowed us to let go without feeling rushed or pressured. Instead, the process became one of reflection, gratitude, and closure.
Sarah combines exceptional professionalism with rare emotional intelligence. I cannot recommend her and First Light Estate Sales highly enough to anyone facing a similar transition and seeking someone they can trust—both practically and personally.

Letting Go of Objects is Not Loss | Estate Sale Perspective

I spend a lot of time with objects. Boxes of china. Collections tucked away for decades. Antique furniture filled with things that once lived in daily use and now gather dust. Over time, I began to believe something that resonated with my values: Objects would rather...

Why You Should Have an Estate Sale Before You Die

The Ecology of Estate Sales

Every estate sale is an act of renewal. It keeps good things in motion, reduces waste, and challenges the endless cycle of buying new. When families choose to sell rather than discard, they extend the life of objects that were once cherished - furniture built to last,...

How Estate Sales Can Help Families Heal

Estate Sale vs. Garage Sale: What Families Should Know Before Choosing

When a house needs to be cleared, families often wonder: should we just hold a garage sale, or is an estate sale a better fit? While both involve parting with belongings, they serve very different purposes. Understanding the differences can save time, reduce stress,...

About Us

Who We Are

We’re Sarah and Seth, the team behind First Light Estate Sales. One of the first things we connected over was our shared love of estate sales: treasure hunting, wondering about the stories behind objects, and delighting in the mysterious lives of humans.

Sarah brings creativity, warmth, and an instinct for creating meaningful experiences. Her background in interior design helps her see how spaces and belongings can inspire awe and be honored with care as a family transitions to what’s next.

Seth brings steadiness and empathy from his years as an oncology nurse. He’s spent his career supporting people through some of life’s hardest seasons, easing suffering through hope and humor, and he carries that same brand of care into this work.

Together, we believe in working with heart. We show up for our clients with compassion, integrity, and energy, always aiming to make the process easier and more efficient.

At First Light, an estate sale is never just a transaction. It’s an act of love.
